Chlorophilia was a one evening event that was part of The Exploratorium’s 2nd Wednesday’s series.

Love is a force that drives humans to passionate and questionable actions. Chlorophilia, the love of plants, is a force that compels humans to alter, manipulate, restrain, and kill the green organisms we live with. All the participants in Chlorophilia convey both reverence and ambivalence toward the life they help to bring into being, pushing admiration and attraction towards the impulse for alteration. This confused boundary with the natural world served as a ripe terrain to discover how aesthetics and morality are intimately married. Chlorophilia exhibited the work of plant breeders, garden societies and research scientists, aligning both artist and expert in a tradition as old as human culture.
